Why "Big Players" are Making Their Way to Substack

👦🏻👦🏻“Mommy mommy mommy! Let’s shoot zombies!”

“Ok, boys, umm, just gimme a sec.”

“I’m gonna get you a machine gun!” Eden squeals.

“Eden! Mommy already HAS a machine gun!” Nolan interjects.

😅

Yes, a little violent, but it’s a zombie apocalypse.

Meanwhile, I hear,

“Join my game too, mommy!” 👧🏻

So after a few minutes, I join my daughter who…

…wants our virtual characters to lounge on beach chairs together 😂

Her gaming style (if you can even call it that) is so different.

One time, we both dressed up our avatars as Stitch and took a virtual nap together.

See? 👇🏻

It cracks me up.

You really need to make time and space for utter ridiculousness like this.

Because us adults? We take everything way too seriously.

Everything has a goal.

A rigorous 10-step marketing plan followed by a rigorous 10-step skincare regimen.

Sometimes we need to play!

And I’m finding out more and more that Substack is becoming my mental playground.

That platform, you guys, is something else.

wrote to you about it about a month ago.

Which is why I’ve been radio silent here at Copybento. I’ve simply been consumed with learning and experimenting. It’s been SO fun.

And I’ve gone deep deep deep with my writing too. Something that I couldn’t do anywhere else.

And other people are doing the same.

It’s a mental playground for many.

Yes, there are tons of serious folks with serious stories, but some people are writing joke poetry about London's expensive flats.

Not just that, you can really interact with your heroes there.

I just read an article about how Jenna Kutcher missed an opportunity to be more transparent about why she ended her Gold Digger Podcast.

And crazily enough, that article landed in Jenna’s feed.

Jenna actually reads the thing and proceeds to write a long thoughtful comment directly on the post to address the issue head on.

And I’ve connected with one of my own copywriting hero’s Laura Belgray (like, she literally follows me now 🤯).

But Laura's not talking about copywriting.

She is talking about dreams and manifestations, and we connected over tarot cards lol.

These big players are making their way to Substack because they just want to write, be playful, and be a beginner again.

(And unrelated sidenote, one of my notes (notes are tweets within the platform) went semi viral and I got 200+ comments on it. That has never happened on any social platform ever!)

But of course, not all of it is great. Let’s be very clear about that.

You end up consuming too much content, and it totally had me spiraling because too many opinions and voices were swirling around in my head (I wrote about that right here).

But what I realized is this:

Copybento grounds me.

Substack lets me fly.

And I think we need both types of outlets.

So if you need an outlet to get your thoughts out while building a writing habit that grows your newsletter subscribers, join me on Substack!
