How To Build Your Business Without Losing Yourself

How To Build Your Business Without Losing Yourself

“I HATE recess. I have no friends…”

That’s what my 7-year-old son told me one afternoon.

My heart sank.

It’s hard to hear those words from your kid, especially when you know they’re not true. I’ve seen him at school pick-up, laughing and playing with other kids.

But in that moment, he believed it.

So, I didn’t argue.

I didn’t try to convince him otherwise.

Instead, I offered a small suggestion:

“What if you brought a coloring book to recess?”

He considered it. Then said, “Okay.”

The next day, he did just that. Sat down. Started coloring.

And to his surprise? A few kids wandered over and asked if they could join. He shared his markers, and they sat beside him, coloring together.

He came home and told me everything that happened.

And he looked so happy.

That one little shift changed everything.

He didn't chase or force a friendship.

He did something he enjoyed.

And others were drawn to it.

That’s how I try to run my business, too.

Of course, I aim to be helpful. Of course, I want my work to serve people.

But the truth is, running an online business can feel disheartening. There are dry spells. Creative blocks. Moments where it feels like no one is watching or responding.

That’s why I’ve learned to create from joy first.

No pressure. No performance.

🎈It’s how I approach social media.
🎈It’s how I build my digital products.
🎈It’s how I market—without losing myself in the process.

Because yes, there are things that have to get done. And sometimes they feel like a slog.

And I know this sounds a bit dramatic, but we only get one life. I really, really, really don’t want to waste it forcing my way through someone else’s blueprint.

I want to model something different for my kids, too:

🎨That it’s okay to experiment in public.
🎨That you can do hard things and make them work for you.
🎨That joy and discipline don’t have to live on opposite ends of the spectrum.

That’s what Instagram is for me right now.

It’s not a performance stage—it’s my sandbox. A place to color outside the lines.

If you’re curious how I experiment and build from that place, come follow along

Because you gotta remember...

Your business depends on you not hating it.

So give yourself permission to experiment, at every stage and in every season.

You never know who might gather around 🥰
